Still Written in the Stars is an audiovisual exploration of historical and contemporary cosmologies that give history, space, and meaning to what is considered planetary. The starting point of the work is Aby Warburg’s An Image Collection on the History of Astrology and Astronomy and the question of why certain stars and not completely different ones happen to be grouped together to form so-called constellations. And what does the way we see, or rather, don’t see, tell us about ourselves?
By linking historical visual representations from the field of astronomy with more recent scientific and cinematic visualizations of the cosmos, a multilayered narrative emerges about the interweaving of symbolic, scientific, and historical thinking about the sky and the universe. Although and precisely because the visible reaches its limits in the field of astronomy, the text is spoken by a Braille reader who also describes the images as they are created for people with visual impairments.
