Panel Discussion with Milicent Adjei (Arca e.V. – African Education Centre), fasiathek, Sista Oloruntoyin (Arrivati e.V.), and Hannimari Jokinen, Arbeitskreis Hamburg Postcolonial. Moderated by Sonia Octavio (Ossara e.V.).
Anti-colonial activism and struggles over public memory have shaped Hamburg for many years – but how visible are they today? Together, the participants will discuss decolonial approaches to urban space and the call for a memorial site at Baakenhafen. At the same time, the discussion highlights that it is above all the long-standing commitment of civil society initiatives that has made Hamburg's colonial history increasingly visible and brought it into public debate.
Venue: Quarterpipe (Access via Versmannkai/ Baakenhafen promenade, Versmannstr. 66, 20457 Hamburg)
Languages: English and German (may be provided as whispered translation). Free admission.
