Algorithmic Decision Making

(ADM) refers to a procedure that reaches decisions in precisely defined cases with the aid of algorithms supplied by artificial intelligence – without any direct human involvement. This can be applied to trivial problems such as the choice of advertisements on a website (see social media targeting); however, it is also possible to process complex questions (e.g. the allocation of places on study courses or assess applications) using such an algorithm and make corresponding decisions. There are obviously serious ethical questions connected to many of these algorithmically produced decisions.
