Re-education

This catch-all phrase covers a range of allied projects that served the purpose of denazifying the Germans after the Second World War and educating them to be responsible subjects of the new democratic form of state and society.  These included the Amerikahäuser that were founded in numerous places, including the one in Munich. These ‘America Houses’ offered visitors up to date information on the politics and societies of the USA and Canada, made an appropriate library available and disseminated the American Way of Life as an exemplary democratic and liberal form of living.
